ALAS

ALAS is a community-rooted organization working to transform the parenting journey, from birth to loss, and all the experiences in between, for Latine families in Central Texas.

We offer holistic, culturally-responsive, and linguistically concordant education and care for parents and parents-to-be in marginalized Latine communities.
ALAS is a trusted and culturally-grounded space committed to healing and community connection.

ALAS

Our People

Who Do We Serve?

We provide services to families in Travis, Bastrop, Williamson, and surrounding counties in Central Texas. We’re filling the gap in these predominantly rural or semi-rural areas where access to resources and culturally-appropriate services is limited.
Origin Story

Why ALAS?

ALAS emerged in direct response to the intersecting crises faced by Latine families in Central Texas: Rising housing costs, economic vulnerability and persistent racial and language discrimination.

Many of our community members were navigating pregnancy, birth, postpartum recovery, while also contending with displacement, low wage, high risk jobs and legal status. ALAS was created by and for these families.

Our Programs

For families in crisis

At ALAS, we understand that for some Latine families in Central Texas, parenting and raising a family is often happening in the midst of a crisis situation, whether it be economic, legal, or health-related. That’s why we provide critical resources to help our community members when they need it the most.

For pregnant / postpartum families

Ciclos de Vida (CDV) is an innovative initiative to improve the perinatal experience, birth outcomes and parenting for Latine families, built on community-grounded principles and informed by a community assessment conducted in Bastrop, Elgin, Travis, and Manor.

For kids and teens

Our integrated approach to helping families thrive doesn’t stop at the parents. We also provide education and resources for kids and teens, especially in the summer when working parents struggle to find appropriate and/or affordable care.

For fathers

Circulo de Padres: A long history of machismo and sexism leaves many modern Latine fathers at a loss for how to be an involved and emotionally regulated parent for their children. Our Circulo de Padres is an opportunity for Latine dads to break cycles and share, learn, and grow together.

For parents of special needs kids

For Latine parents already facing chronic stress and instability, raising a child with special needs is overwhelming. We know how critical it is to provide support and resources for parents, especially those newly postpartum.
