Evelyn “Evy” Escamilla-Nichols is a Mexican-American artist, printmaker, graphic designer, and photographer based in Austin, Texas. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design from the Instituto Superior de Diseño y Arte in Monterrey, Mexico, where she graduated summa cum laude and received multiple academic honors. 

For more than three decades, Evy has worked as a graphic designer, creative director, and visual communicator for nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, healthcare organizations, and community-based initiatives in Mexico and the United States. Her professional experience includes positions with the Art Institute of Chicago, the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago, and her own studio, Avocado Street Design. 

For the last 15 years or so, she has also worked as a Spanish-language interpreter, supporting communication across linguistic and cultural contexts. Her artistic practice combines photography, linocut printmaking, and design, drawing on her experiences as a bicultural, bilingual artist. Influenced by Mexican print traditions, popular graphics, and contemporary visual culture, her work explores themes of identity, language, community, and observation through a balance of experimentation and visual storytelling. In addition to her studio practice, Evy has taught design and community arts workshops and remains active in civic, cultural, and social justice initiatives.
