Our Programs

Empowering parents with culturally-relevant, community-led care

Our programs have grown from direct conversations and on-the-ground experiences with families in Central Texas. We are working to provide resources and address the issues that matter most to real Latine families in our communities.

We provide services for:

  • Families in crisis
  • Fathers
  • Pregnant/postpartum families
  • Kids and teens
  • Families with special needs children

***All of our programs are currently in Spanish

For families in crisis

At ALAS, we understand that for some Latine families in Central Texas, parenting and raising a family is often happening in the midst of a crisis situation, whether it be economic, legal, or health-related. That’s why we provide critical resources to help our community members when they need it the most.

  • Legal services
  • Help navigating the health system
  • Birth prep classes for families with high risk or complicated pregnancies

For fathers

Circulo de Padres (Dads Group)

A long history of machismo and sexism leaves many modern Latine fathers at a loss for how to be an involved and emotionally regulated parent for their children. Our Circulo de Papas is an opportunity for Latine dads to break cycles and share, learn, and grow together.

For pregnant/postpartum families

Ciclos de Vida

Ciclos de Vida (CDV) is an innovative initiative to improve the perinatal experience, birth outcomes and parenting for Latine families, built on community-grounded principles and informed by a community assessment conducted in Bastrop, Elgin, Travis, and Manor.

What makes CDV different?

The CDV program is unique in the integration of comprehensive grief and loss support alongside childbirth preparation —a rare offering in the perinatal health landscape.

ALAS recognizes that miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant loss are deeply impacted by systemic socio-political factors, and that Latine families often navigate these crises without access to supportive care.

How do we do it?

Families have access to culturally grounded childbirth education, trauma informed loss support and the practical resources that protect dignity during the most difficult and vulnerable moments of life, death, and everything in between.

  • Doula services
  • Birth prep classes
  • Individual and family therapy
  • Wellness sessions
  • Grief/loss support groups
  • Funeral and burial funds
  • Emergency funds

For kids and teens

Our integrated approach to helping families thrive doesn’t stop at the parents. We also provide education and resources for kids and teens, especially in the summer when working parents struggle to find appropriate and/or affordable care.

  • Summer Camps
    • Our summer camps are about more than just keeping kids entertained for a few hours. We incorporate cultural education, teaching our youth about their history and traditions. We also emphasize emotional and social education to foster community and self-awareness.
  • Workshops
    • Our workshops are open to teens and cover a variety of topics.

For parents of special needs children

For Latine parents already facing chronic stress and instability, raising a child with special needs is overwhelming. We know how critical it is to provide support and resources for parents, especially those newly postpartum.

  • Specialized workshops
  • Support group with other parents
  • Individual and group therapy
  • Assistance navigating the healthcare system
